How to get started

  • Work with your school’s faculty advisor to complete and submit the “Intent to Compete” form by the deadline.
  • Meet with your school’s faculty advisor and the local Innovation Network Director regarding the team’s business plan or business model.
  • Continue to refine your plan, seeking assistance from your advisor or Innovation Network Director as needed.
  • Work with the school’s faculty advisor to finalize all of the required materials that the advisor will submit via Pitchburner by the posted deadline.

How to get started

  • Each participating school must select one faculty/staff representative to act as the teams’ advisor.
  • To enter the competition, all students and teams must be approved by their advisor(s) and their Kentucky Innovation Network Director.
  • The Kentucky Innovation Network Directors will assist with increasing students’ skills in entrepreneurship, business models, pitching skills, coaching, start-up processes and investment practices.
  • Teams should contact and begin working with their Innovation Network Director early in the process.

The faculty advisor will work with the Innovation Network Director in their region to accomplish the following:

  • Determine student teams that will participate in the competition.
  • Determine which track the student team should enter (Business Plan or Business Model).
  • Coach the student team(s) on their presentation, pitch, written entry, etc.
  • Serve as the liaison between the student team(s), the school, Innovation Network Director and Idea State U staff.
  • Travel with the student team(s) to the regional and final competitions, if they qualify.

Only faculty advisors are authorized to approve a team entering the competition and sign affidavits for a team attesting to the team’s compliance with all eligibility and competition guidelines.
